Tirana is the capital and the largest city in Albania. The city has around 600,000 inhabitants and was founded by sultan Sulejman Pasha in 1614. It became the capital of Albania in 1920. After the communist regime fell in 1991 the city grew very rapidly, because people from the country moved to the capital to find better lives. The city is Albania's primary industrial centre.
