Where is the Bahamas located?

The Bahamas is a group of islands located in the Atlantic Ocean between Florida and Cuba. The islands have around 300,000 inhabitants and the biggest city is Nassau, which is also the capital. Geographically, Bahamas belongs to the same island chain as Cuba. The country used to be a British colony, but gained independence in 1973. The country is part of the Commonwealth. The Bahamas were the site of Columbus' first landfall in the New World in 1492.
