Sir Isaac Newton (1642 – 1727 was an English physicist, mathematician and astronomer who described the laws on universal gravitation, amongst others. He is widely acclaimed for having written one of the key oeuvres within his field - "Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy"- which gives a mathematical explanation for the laws that control the motions of the sky, as well as the law on gravitation.
