Michelangelo's major early works include the sculptures Pietà (1497-1500) in the Saint Peter's Basilica, and the colossal statue David (1501-1504) in Florence. From 1508 to 1512, he painted the ceiling frescoes of the Sistine Chapel, and from 1536-41 "The Apocalypse" on its altar wall.
