Rio de Janeiro is both the name of a city and a state in southeast Brazil. The city is also the capital of the state Rio de Janeiro and the second largest in Brazil. Rio is famous for its beaches Copacabana and Ipanema, for the gigantic statue of Christ (Cristo Redentor) on the Corcovado mountain and for its annual carnival.
