With its 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. It is located in Tanzania, close to the border with Kenya. Kilimanjaro rises 4,800 metres above its surroundings. The mountain is made up of three volcanic cones and is a stratovolcano. It began forming 1/2- 3/4 million years ago as part of the Rift Valley.
